Betty J. Buckhalter, 69, of Topeka passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016 at her home. She was born October 30, 1946 in Topeka the daughter of Elwyn and Bonnie(Nystrom) Bayless. Betty graduated from Topeka High School in 1964. She worked for 32 years at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas before retiring in 2009. She was a caregiver for her mother for many years before Bonnie passed last year. True to her character as a caregiver, she was very giving to others, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She bowled in the Eagles Lodge Bowling League and enjoyed going to auctions and Golden Eagle Casino with Jerry.
Included in her surviving family are her husband Jerry Buckhalter of Topeka; sons, Richard Buckhalter and wife Melanie of Auburn and Robert Buckhalter and wife Lisa of Topeka; grandchildren, Winston Buckhalter, Colton Buckhalter, MacKenzie Buckhalter, Abigail Lewis, Stephanie Buckhalter, Hanna Buckhalter, Brogan Buckhalter and Austin Connors.; great-grandchildren, Natalie Buckhalter, Vincent Buckhalter and Jaxon DeVoe; brother, LeRoy Bayless of Kansas City; sisters, Karla Irwin (Keever) of Harveyville, Kansas and Katherine Kirksey (Art) of Topeka.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris and Darlene; one brother, Richard; one great-grandson Jayden; and a niece and nephew.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, January 6th, from 5-7 pm followed by a funeral services at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society.
