Arthur Harris Griggs

Obit for Arthur "Art" Harris Griggs:
Arthur “Art” H. Griggs of Topeka, Kansas went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Midland Hospice.
Art was born on November 23, 1946, in Denver, Colorado, the son of Frank W. and Sallie H. Griggs. He lived in Topeka most of his life, in his later years Art split his time between Topeka and Jacmel, Haiti.
Art served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge in 1970. He then graduated from the Washburn University School of Law. Art later served as the Chief Attorney for the Kansas State Department of Administration.
Art was married to Indus Harrison in 1973. To this union were born two children, a son, Will and a daughter, Kathrin. He and Indus were divorced. Art later married Gina Lauture.
Art was a member of Grace Cathedral Church for many years, he also served on the Board of Let’s Help. Art had a passion for helping people - for several years he had a tomato garden on Saint David’s Episcopal Church property - he would give the tomatoes to Let’s Help, Doorstep, and the Rescue Mission. Later in life, Art led mission trips to Haiti on a regular basis for many years.
Art was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Frank W. Griggs III. Art is survived by his wife Gina, his son Will Griggs and wife Emily of Lake Quivira, KS, his daughter Kathrin Griggs-Hyacinthe of Kansas City, MO, and two step-daughters, Regine Nicaisse and Kencia Lauture of the home. He is also survived by his sister, Rev. Sarah Griggs of Topeka. Also surviving are his four grandchildren: Mack Griggs, Ozzie Griggs, Amahya Hyacinthe and Seela Hyacinthe.
Services will be held on Friday, July 22 at 10 AM at the Family of God Church, 1231 NW Eugene St., Topeka, KS. Inurnment will follow at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd., Manhattan, KS 66503 at 1 PM.
Topeka Chapel Oaks Cremation and Funeral Services is honored to serve the Griggs family.
