Bobbie Jo Torrence (Mayhew)

Bobby Jo (Torrence ) Mayhew, 49, formerly of 1909 Judson Street, died April 17 at the St. Joseph Senior Community in Manhattan following an extended illness.

She was born June 6, 1946, in Garden City, and had lived in Manhattan for the past eight years.

Mrs. Mayhew was a medical technician and had worked for several hospital and medical laboratories.

She graduated from Topeka High School in 1964 and had attended Kansas State and Washburn universities.

Mrs. Mayhew was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Topeka and a member of the Christian Women’s Club.

She married Bill Bailey in Topeka and they were later divorced.  She later married Jim Mayhew in 1980, and he survives of the home.  Other survivors include her parents, Elon and Lois “Polly” Torrence of Topeka; one son, Brian Bailey of Kansas City; one stepson, David Mayhew, Okarche, Okla.; one stepdaughter, Janna Smith of Kingfisher, Okla.; one sister, Mary Torrence, Topeka; and three brothers, Rich Torrence, Weatherford, Okla., Ron Torrence, Pocatello, Idaho, and Church Torrence, Topeka.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the College Avenue United Methodist Church in Manhattan, with Rev. Nancy Gammill, Rev. Pat Tribby and Sister Ann Meyer officiating.  Private family inurnment services will be at the Carnahan Creek Cemetery north of Manhattan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas Ornithological Society.  Contributions may be left in care of the Edwards-Yorgensen-Meloan Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz
