Cheryl Irene (Bittenbender) McLain, 74, passed away Wednesday, March 31 at Stormont-Vail Hospital after a long battle with cancer.

Cheryl was born Oct. 16, 1946 in West Palm Beach, FL to James Bittenbender and Rosa Lorene (Stewart) Bittenbender, who both preceded her in death. Her sister, Lee Ann (Bittenbender) Schultz, passed in 1982.

After graduating from Topeka High School in 1964, Cheryl married Leon Hayes and had four children. Michael Todd Hayes passed at birth in 1968. Cheryl is survived by her other children.

Cheryl retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. after 28 years of service. She was a member of Electra chapter of Delta Theta Chi sorority and was proud of the work she and her sisters did in the community. She lobbied for the Democratic Party and was relieved by the 2020 results.

Cheryl's legacy most importantly includes her grandchildren, and great-grandson , all of whom she could not stop bragging about to anyone who would listen. Her nephew, was another source of great pride for her.

Cheryl was a tireless champion for her family and will be missed more than words could ever convey.
