In Memory

Doris J. Wutherich (Shead)

Doris Jeen Shead, 69, Topeka, passed away peacefully Friday, May 8, 2015, at her home.

Doris was born April 9, 1946, in Topeka, the daughter of Leonard and Hazel Wolverton Wutherich. Doris was a 1964 graduate of Topeka High School. On November 1, 1987, Doris and Philip G. Shead were united in marriage and thoroughly enjoyed their time together.

First and foremost, Doris loved her family. She loved being together with them for meals, fishing, playing Yahtzee and Scrabble, just being together. Doris loved flowers and had 50 potted plants in the oasis she created in the backyard, not to mention all the plantings and the flowers in her home. What began as a hobby in ceramics became a home business and a huge part of her life, including the close friends she made in her classes and through their projects. Doris loved with all her heart and was dearly loved as well. She will be greatly missed.

Grateful for sharing Doris’ life are her husband, Philip Shead; her children, Kimberly Miller, Christine Garrett, Becky, Frank, Aaron and Michael Shead; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Thomas and Nancy Ruby; and close friends, David and Jane Miller. Doris was preceded in death by her parents and her son, David Miller.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. A Celebration of Doris’ Life will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Topeka.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Midland Care Hospice and Helping Hands Humane Society, sent to the funeral home.
