For most of my four years at Troy HIgh in HR 311 I sat across from Sanford Finkel and Arthur Finkle!  It was an experience.  I could always start my day with a chuckle (and sometimes a reprimand from our HR teacher.....we had three different ones in the four years.  Sanford was a kind, fun loving and friendly person.  There was a song out at that time called "Norman"  and when I found out it was Sanford's middle name, I would regularly sing....and I use the term sing loosly....that to him.  One of my regrets is that I never made it to one of the class reunions to sing it to him once more!!!  Flights of Angels Sanford.

I was born about a block away from Sandford in downtown Troy. We were a month apart in age. I knew him before we were old enough for school. We went to grammer school together at School 10 in downtown Troy and the we both switched to School 18 about a year apart. We, of course, went to high school together. We went to the same Hebrew school and were Bar Mitzvahed about a month apart. I knew both is parents. We played football together and had most of the same friends. We lost touch after high scool although we did get together for lunch evry few years to catch up.

I remeber discussing his first kiss and the first time he got to first base. You cant duplicate the friends you make when you are young and growing up and discovering life's secrets together.

Sanford was one of the nicest people I have ever known. He was a gentlemen. He was extermely witty. I loved his laugh and the way he tried to make other people laugh. I never knew him to be mean. I remeber sweating with him through the Physics Regents exam. I remeber he was in the Air Force ROTC when I was in the Arny ROTC in college and I would write him addressing  the envelope to General Sanford Finkel. Sanford's parents had a Dodge Charger. It was red. He looked great in it.

We probably all remember that Sanford had a column in the THS student paper that was very funny. He was a key memebr of out class. We will all miss him but I must say that I feel like part of my history is gone.  His passing has really affected me. I hope some day to see him again in heaven and continue the laughs we had gfowing up.
