Dana Clark Joffray died in 1997 from breast cancer.  She is survived by her daughter Hannah.

Dana moved to Tulsa from Tahlequah the summer before 10th grade.  We became fast friends at Memorial, and had so many crazy adventures together over the years.  Dana is the funniest person I have ever met.  Her dream was to be an actor, and she could make anything her stage.

One of our adventures - Our senior year, Dana, Meshell Barnhart and I camped out for tickets to a Hank Williams, Jr. concert.  Our seats at the concert were front row, center.  We were having a great time when Hank sat down in a chair and started to play “Women I’ve Never Had.”  Dana promptly announced that Hank had never had her.  She handed her camera to Meshell, climbed up on the barricade in front of our seats, hurled herself over the heads of security, and landed on stage.  Wayne Turner, the 6’3” lead guitarist, tried to get between Dana and Hank, and 5 foot nothing Dana knocked Wayne on his a**, went straight for Hank, threw her arms around his neck, and latched on.  Hank laughed and laughed (while continuing to play) as security work feverously to pry Dana off of Hank.  Eventually they were successful, and they carried Dana off of the stage.  Meshell and I later found out that security threw Dana out the backstage door, but David Alan Coe sent his road manager out to get her and let her back in the concert.  A song or two later, we saw Dana being passed over the audience’s heads until she got back to our seats.  She told us we were supposed to go to the hotel after the show to meet the band.  We were so excited, and asked, what room?  Dana said she could not remember, but she knew it had a 3 in it.  J  We did go to the hotel and we got to meet Hank and his band, but that is a whole other story.  I saw Wayne Turner years later and he still remembered Dana, and he still referred to her as “Wild Woman.”  He said he got teased for years about being thrown down by her.

Maybe for our 40th reunion I will tell the stories about how Dana, Kari Dawn and I met the Kinks, Paul Rogers (Bad Company), and Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin).

Dana always made time to stop and smell the flowers, and I always teased her about it.  :)
