Janet 70 - Henson Rice

I had a blast growing up with the Whitehouse gang. I've been gone so long, and I don't remember all the road names (but I remember all of you) and I remember walking barefoot in the summer from my house up to Brenda and Suzanne's house. Spent many days and nights at Joann's. I always loved the architecture of Joann's house on the hill by Cope's Store. My first crush was on Russell Smith. I was a trumpet player in the band and always sat by Benny Tomlin (who I also had a crush on) and I remember our birthdays are within a day or 2 of each other. Remember Benny playing Cherry Blossom at our talent shows?

I remember our yearly field trips to Troup swimming pool.

I remember Mozelle Brown, Mrs. Garner, Principal Hanks, Ms. Newkirk, Principal Nix. I remember Mr. and Mrs. Higgins - they were such a cute couple. I always enjoyed visiting Gay and their home. It was fun because there were so many of them.

I remember soap box derbies with all the neighborhood gang on Acker Tap.

I always loved playing baseball with the boys at recess and one day I slung my bat and hit Gary Kelly, who was catching, in the nose. Blood was everywhere and the ambulance came to take him away. I was scared to death and I watched the news on TV that night to see if I had killed him. Ouch!

Mrs. Garner (she was my fifth and sixth grade teacher). I was in her class when we got the news that Kennedy had been assassinated. This was also about the time The Beatles were becoming a big hit. I had asked her what her favorite Beatle song was and she responded..."I want to hold your hand".
