Carolyn Blancett Bland

When I graduated I went to college at William Woods College (now University) in Fulton, Missouri. I was there for a year and then got married. Later, when we moved to Austin I took classes at the University and worked. After law school, we moved to Houston a total of about 16 years. I lived in Fort Worth for many years and in San Diego for a year. That was great fun! I moved back to Wichita Falls and went back to college at Midwestern and really enjoyed it. I worked on campus as Coordinator for the Student Activities planning all campus wide events. I enjoyed this time immensely, it was a hoot. Lastly, I moved to College Station in 2012 and I guess this is now home. I am even an Aggie now. I live in a small town right outside CS which revolves around Lake Somerville. It's quite and peaceful until summer, but it is a nice place to be.

I think the, one single thing, that stands out in my mind is the day I got into trouble with Miss Gould. I had never really been in trouble, at schooll, before and maybe that is why I remember this so vividly.
I had decided to wear skorts to school that day, which was my first mistake. I knew that they were not exactly school code, but I really though they looked enough like a skirt it would be alright. I was busted about 3 minutes after I entered the doors. There she was standing right in front of the office. I tried to sneak by her, but it wasn't to be. She just came up beside me and took me to her office. She, very sternly, reminded me of the dress code and told me that I was dressed improperly. I apologized and told her that I would go home and change, but she would not let me.
Instead, she brought out the ugliest black wool skirt that I had ever seen and told me to put it on. Well, not only was it spring, it was about 3 sizes to big and actually falling off me. She handed me a belt and told me to put it on to keep my skirt up. The skirt was not made for a belt so I just put it, below the waist, and rolled the skirt up so it wouldn't be so long. I had to wear that horrible thing all day.
I was so embarrassed and I am sure that Johnny was too when walking me from class to class.
What a day, I never crossed her again, I walked a very straight line for the rest of the year.
