We were invited to Impact by Roger Bales and Mike Coldren. They got us involved in small groups and the sunday school class. We went to Mike and Karens home for a Care Ring meeting and have been members ever since.

I excepted the Lord as my savior June 6th 1966 at the First Baptist Church of Augusta Kansas. I had been attending the church for several months. My girlfriend's parents told me they didn't mind me dating their daughter as long as I went to church with her on Sunday. (This is something that parents still need to be doing) I was an example of someone that thougth if you were a good person then you were going to heaven. I came from a good home where my brother and I were brought up right. We were taught to respect our parents and our elders as well as those in authority over us. (Again something that parents need to be doing). We were never exposed to cursing, and know one was ever aloud to smoke or dirnk in our home. My father always taught us to help others in need. So even though I was a sinner from birth I never really realized it. As far as I was concerned we lived just as good as any of our friends that went to church every Sunday until one certain Sunday in my life. I would set in church and write notes back and forth to my girl friend while the pastor's words went straight over my head until one Sunday. You see I loved sports and wanted to play softball on the church team. Only problem was they had a rule that you had to be a member of the church and attend regulary. (something all churchs should also be doing) Anyway I thought that I saw an opportunity to score some big points with my gril friends parnets and play softball at the same time. So I went forward at the end of the service to join the church. When I told the pastor why I had came forward he asked me to meet him in his study after the service in that there was a little more to becoming a Christain then just joining the church, Praise the Lord for Pastor White. Once inside he simply explained the plan of salvation to me. That I needed to realize that I was a siner and except Christ as my savior. Pastor White took me down the Roman's road, which ended up at heavens gate. By the grace of God I have been a Christian now for 43 years. By the way I married my high school girl friend (Susan) and praise the Lord we have been married now for 40 years and have a wonderful family, (four grand kids).

P.S. Sports and other activities are not bad thing's to have in church - it helps to invite those who are lost into an atmosphere where the salvation plan can be presednted in a non-threatening manner while showing that God's children can have fun and still be Christians. I think that Care Rings are just another example of how to offer a non-threatiening atmosphere while providing quality care physically, emotionally and spriitually.
