School Story
Mr. Peter's homeroom, 1st day. incredible meeting new teenagers, including Melaniie Wuest, who wore a black outfit and had her hair done with lille "sprinces" down her forehead. Melanie had a sledding party that fall. I think I went with Sherwood. Sherwood Chang and I played ping pong on occasions at my house. Football practice, August prior to CHS was grueling; so sore the next day I could hardly move. Two all-American coaches, Joe Nesmith and Dave Harr. Later they'd add Iron Man Chuck Mehelick from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Amazing! Coach Nesmith 50 years later at a reunion, remembered me with "Bobby Westerman; you were the most coachable player I ever had". Not the best player by far, but a pleasing event for me.
Every day in French class Harry Katz 6’1” or more would arrive late (Hall Patrol) sit down for .5 seconds and spring upstanding with hand raised (almost to the ceiling) spurting out “amiss Corr, Miss Corr; can sing Christmas carols today”. Miss Corr was a twenty something year old. Likely this was her first position. She was nice and a good teacher, but Harry you made me laugh with this, a permanent picture, all my life.
