I graduated from Cal Poly, Pomona, with a degree in mathematics in 1963. I was captain of the wrestling team. In 1969 I was awarded a NSF grant and earned a masters degree in math at Cal State Fullerton.
I taught math and science at a private school in Pomona for 5 years. Then I taught math and coached wrestling at Ganesha High. In 1972 we moved to Irvine and taught math and coached wrestling at University and Irvine High. In 1986 I went to Fullerton College and taught math until retirement in 2001. We moved to Sun Lakes Country Club in Banning where I am president of the men's golf club. Our house is on a beautiful lot on the private golf course. If any of you golfers are out this way, stop in a play a round of golf.
While at Cal Poly I met my wife Joan. We married right after graduation, and will be married 47 years in July. She taught 2nd grade for 26 years. We have two children and 6 grandchildren. My son Kent Jr. teaches English and coaches wrestling at Woodbridge High in Irvine. His wife Mary teaches 1st grade at an elementary school in the same district. Their daughter Katie (our eldest granddaughter teaches 2nd grade at the same school as her mother. Our daughter Tammy teaches 3rd grade at another school in the same district. So, with my dad that makes 4 generations of teachers.
A few have sent messages about my father Milton who had 45 of us in English Lit. He passed away in November of 1970 at the age of 55. We all learned a lot about Eng. Lit. My son now teaches that subject and is amazed at what I remember.
It was great to see everyone at the reunion. The subject came up about how fortunate we were that our parents chose Claremont. Milton was superintendent of schools in Minnesota. He resigned and chose Claremont because his 5 children were approaching college age, and there were opportunities here. We stayed at home and drove to Cal Poly, and all of us earned our degrees. Thanks mom and dad.
