"Dreams are renewable. No matter what our age or condition, there are still untapped possibilities within us and new beauty waiting to be born." (DR. DALE TURNER)

School Story:

"Ignorance Enslaves, Knowledge Liberates"... means more to me now more than ever! ... I was so quiet throughout my high school years, if this epistle is long ooono figive mi... I have found my voice...Whoopeeeeee, like a chrysalis breaking through its cocoon... pretty likkle butterfly... that's me... my spirit now set free... I soar, rising each day... being the best that i can be!

... My sincerest gratitude to Mr. Roland Smith (English Language & Literature Teacher, 1981-83) for inculcating in me the love for literary works... Your guidance has empowered me to hear what has not yet been said and to see what is not yet visible to the physical eye... Our encounter has left an indelible mark on my life...

... For 5 years, (1978 - 1983), with WKMHS's graduation date falling on or around the 11th November (my birthday), I could count on the fact that my birthday gift would be a white dress and a pair of black shoes...

... Fighting the 'metal chair phobia' and running to get plastic chairs at the beginning of each class session... sitting under the Almond Tree, big ooman and man story popping an mi neva ave none, then i would be called the baby of the group... ah sah!

... Being a book pest, how could I forget... "Pinnochio, Tom Sawyer, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys and Bobbsey Twins... Running down Ms. Harris the librarian for the latest Enid Blyton releases?" ... Mr. Maurice Whitely and 'Young Warriors'... Mr. Roland Smith: 'Romeo & Juliet, Silas Marner and Chinnua Achibe's 'Things Fall Apart'?

... Joining 10 cents a day partner in grade 8/9, all now mi nuh get mi draw... di plan did collapse. Mi learn mi lesson well... more careful now what/who i invest my time and resources in!

...Sherwoodites... you would remember one of our most reliable source of transportation from Sherwood Content, DB (Duppy Buggy, slow but sure)... one day it rained and DB came to school for us... a lot of us passed him and chastized him for coming to school for us as we were sometimes made fun of... DB turned the yellow van with louvre blade windows around and picked us up on his way from the school compound... That's it for peer pressure... Bless DB's heart, he applied unconditional love, his soul is resting in peace!

...How could I forget Bend-Down Market every Wednesday... I saved my lunch money and bought my first "training ehemmm" cause mummy was taking too long to realize i was turning into a little woman in my mind... (all my classmates had an mi neva ave none)... I don't want nobady ask mi how i get dem to look real... ooonu too fass!

... Trying to run "Cross Country Race" and catching di bus in Falmouth back to school... mi did try... There are no mistakes in my life, just lessons from which i have learnt... appreciating when it is time to keep holding on and when it feels right to let go and keep moving in a different direction!

... Most embarassing moments... having Mrs. Cumberbatch catch me walking on the corridor during class time and at the top of her voice saying... 'You girl, I am ashamed of you, but you remember I know your mother...' Now for those who knew my dear Mummy (a teacher herself and a disciplinarian who was worst than Mrs. Cumberbatch) would understand why I walked the chalk line for the rest of my school life... Only Lightening Bolt's speed on di track worked faster than Mummy's hand being true to her motto not to 'Spare di rod an spoil di chile'... bless har heart, it was in a good place!... Did I tell ooono bout di day Mummy, Miself an Ms. Cumberbatch finally buck up in Big J's Supamarket inna Falmouth? I will not mention dat I almost pee-pee mi self wid fright... Soooo happy when Mrs. Cumberbatch's only words were...'Don't worry yourself Calla, a watching har!"... Wheew!!!!!

... Being sent off to high school bright September morning 1978 with two blue ribbons over mi ears and mi green floral lunch pan... den di drinks start leak... the ribbons ended up in my pocket... but I had to make sure they were back in my hair before I got home... or else, Mummy would make the "peltukincowcad" or di "cookoomaka stick" talk on my you know what!... Yesss!!! you guessed right, it would surely have some words with my "rumpustagus"... (Dat's what mi Mummy used to call it:) If u tink is lie bout di ribbon, oono look pon di yellow ribbon pon mi head top below, look like bird siddung pon im nest... nuh true? And oono see di black & white picture below? Dat wus 2 red ribbon ova mi ears corner like Sista Bunny Rabbit!

It matters less what has happened to us... what is of more significance is what we have done with what has happened to us, through us and because of us. God bless... ENJOY THE JOURNEY WITH ME DOWN MY MEMORY LANE! Come... falla backa meeeee......

...a lot has happened in our William Knibb Family since i have last been here... Most recent being Bucky's passing (1983 alumni). Additionally, both Alumni brother Lloyd Simpson (1983) and Alumni sister Andrea Hayden (1983) each lost their mothers hours apart on the same day... New Years Eve... Link them up and leave some love on their page!!!! TOGETHER, WE STAND STRONG!!!! Best wishes for 2015... to you and your families... and as you embrace your life-purpose, may you find added strength, courage, resilience, and wisdom to turn your stumbling blocks into stepping stones!!!!!!
