I was a classical music reviewer for a midsize newspaper when I encountered a lively, elderly couple in the lobby at a concert. They recognized me and introduced themselves as Paul's parents. Lovely people. Then a jolt to my heart: They told me Paul had died. I remember Paul as a man of great decency and class, and a first-rate mind. That was certainly reflected in his parents. He was a good guy.
