Hello, Bob. It's been almost forever.
Hey Bill, remember those Friday nights at the Paramount?
Colorado is pretty and all, but it ain't Texas.
My wife, Linda, and I have begun an itinerant evangelistic / street preaching ministry. Mission fields are really threefold.
1. The homeless. While there are many church and civic groups that help this demographic, we deal directly and hands-on with them. I found that they wouldn't open up with me when I was polo-shirted and clean cut, so I made the sacrifice and grew what hair would grow longer, and now sport a full, albeit white, beard. Now they will open up to me and I can share things that matter with them. We're water baptizing one on Tuesday, October 14. He's been in our Bible Study at the Holy Temple of Taco Bell in North Austin for about a year and a half. Finally, he made the choice to follow Jesus.
2. Those who have a history of church, but have either become disillusioned with the organization, or have had their souls bruised by events within the 4 walls, and don't want to attend any more. (We all know people in that situation.) So we try to collect a few of them together in one of their homes, and encourage them to meet together for fellowship around the Word and with each other. Just for a thought question, "Do you know when the best time to find and approach them? Sunday morning at the mall or the park. Since they don't go to church....
3. The church collective is sound asleep under the lights, and being somnambulists through yet another sermon, while people next door are living lost. After 33 years of that, I finally said, "Enough." We've left the brick and mortar in favor of the cobblestones.. We have just put up a website at www.cobblestone-ministries.com
Our flagship program is called the Great Commission Workshop, and is directed at church members who have felt the lack of effectiveness for a long time, and want to find out what Jesus really meant in Matthew 28:18ff. We travel, and present the material to whomever wants to hear. Check us out. We also have a FB group just started recently. Take a look. Maybe we can come to where you are, and help get some folks out of their seat, on their feet into the street, sharing Jesus with whom they meet. Let me hear from you.
