School Story
I had a bad paper one day (got a “C”, she wrote needs improvement on it) in 3rd grade. Mrs Neville, our teacher stapled it to the top of all of my papers so my Mom (Bonnie) would make sure and see it. On the walk home from Austin Elementary that day, I detached it from the staple and put it down a storm drain on Elmwood Road. That night it rained and floated back up to the street. Melanie King who was in my class found the paper on her walk home the very next day and gave it back to Mrs Neville. She came by desk 2 days later and presented it to me and told me that she had just called my Mom about the abandon paper. Boy did I get in trouble that night. Forgave Melanie but never much like Mrs. Neville after that. Funny thing about it all these years, is the storm drain is still there after 60 years. I wonder how many bad papers it’s seen over these years.
