Dan got lung cancer probably caused by radon leaking into the basement of his home. His bedroom was down there and he spent a lot of time there. I found out later that Akron is built on top of an uranium deposit and that probably all of the Firestone Park homes would test postive for radon. Scary, huh?

Dan was my best friend. When my family moved to Akron in 1976, Dan was the first person that befriended me. We fished together, hunted together and just hung out. Dan had a quick wit and was a genuinely good person. His parents were and are great people. We all attended the same church. Dan did die of cancer, though I think it was more a matter of a family history of cancer than anything else. In fact, Dan's bedroom was on the second floor of his parent's house. He did however, lift weights in the basement. He was one who died too early and is greatly missed.
