In Memory

Gatha Orton (Frye)

Gatha Orton (Frye)

But now the mist has lifted and in front of me I see,
A path that is clear that will lead me back to me,
A light that is shining to guide me on my way,
And a lifetime of memories as down to rest I lay…

The troubles and anxieties of life without memory are now a distant past as she walks clear-headed with Angels in Heaven.  -  Shannon Gardner, daughter

Gatha Frye Obituary From Rogers Family Mortuary - Alamosa on Feb. 17, 2024

Alamosa- Gatha Marie Frye (Orton)
Gatha Marie Frye, a cherished member of the Alamosa, Mosca, and Hooper communities, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2024, in her hometown of Alamosa, CO. Born on July 12, 1943, in the same close-knit town, Gatha's life was a testament to her loving, kind, and selfless nature.
Gatha graduated from Alamosa High School and devoted over 35 years of service to the Sangre De Cristo High School. Her career began as a school bus driver, a role that showcased her dedication to the wellbeing and safety of children. She then transitioned to the kitchen, where her warmth was felt in every meal she helped prepare. Her career path led her to the business office, where she became an indispensable secretary, and she ultimately retired as a meticulous bookkeeper. Gatha's commitment to education extended beyond her professional duties; she was a proud supporter and sponsor of the Sangre De Cristo High School girls basketball team, faithfully attending and traveling to games to cheer them on.
Family was the cornerstone of Gatha's life. She is survived by her loving daughter, Shannon (Darrel) Beiriger of Lochbuie, CO, and her son, Roy Frye of Terrell, TX. Her brother, Roy (Barbara) Orton, also remains to honor her memory, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss her dearly. Gatha's legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Nastasijia Frye, Kaytlyn Simpson, Wyatt Simpson, and Dillon Gardner, who will carry her spirit of love and compassion into the future. Gatha was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Edith, her devoted husband, Ronald E. Frye, and her brother Marold Eugene (Sherri) Orton.
Gatha's interests painted the portrait of a woman who found joy in life's simple pleasures. She was an avid reader, often immersed in the pages of a book, reading with a speed that astonished those around her. Crossword puzzles were a favorite pastime, reflecting her sharp mind and love for words. Gatha's affection for her cats was well-known, as they were her beloved companions. Her involvement with The Rebekahs and as an Elkette demonstrated her commitment to service and community. Gatha's culinary skills were a gift to both organizations, as she spent many years helping to prepare meals for their events.
The Senior Citizens Center benefited from Gatha's vibrant presence where she was a respected member and friend to many. Her adventurous spirit shone brightly through her love of travel, and particularly when a trip to a casino was on the horizon. Gatha's enthusiasm for her favorite penny and dime machines was infectious, and her laughter and joy were the real jackpots for anyone who accompanied her.
Per Gatha and her families wishes, there will be no services, and a celebration of life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Mosca/Hooper Fire Department.

it is so hard to lose a wonderful classmate.  i knew gatha from the second grade.  for theyears after graduation i relied upon my children who attended the schools she was associated with.  i enjoyed her husband as well.  my 3 children loved gatha and experienced her love and compassion at sangre school district.  she was always an important part of every class reunion that our class was involved in.  she was quite the organizer.  she will be missed.
