Herb passed peacefully on the afternoon of May 25, 2011. He died of complications of cancer. This is the most recent photo available as he helped with the reunion committee in the April meeting.

Herbert Sidney Toogood, III, 69
ALAMOSA—Longtime Alamosa resident Herbert Sidney Toogood, III, 69, died May 25, 2011 at the Juniper Village in Monte Vista.
Herb was born April 17, 1942 in Alamosa the son to Paul E. and Elizabeth Griffith Toogood.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from Adams State College in physics and he worked for several years as a Non Destructive Testing Technician for Dow Chemical in Rocky Flats, Colorado. Herb enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially ducks, and target practicing. In his spare time he enjoyed reading mysteries and religious books.
His protégé was Jim Irwin the astronaut and he learned a great deal of Christian insight from him. Herb graduated from the Nazarene Bible College and was a member of the Valley Church of the Nazarene in Monte Vista. On one occasion he traveled to the Creation Center in northern Kentucky and was awed by inspiration.
Herb is survived by his brother Robert Toogood of Alamosa and his sister Marjorie (H. Emmett) Seal of Pueblo; his brothers-in-law: Al King, Jr. of Alamosa and Leonard King of Alamosa; his nieces and nephews: Cynthia (Michael) Goldsworthy, Nola (Cliff) Heide, Paul Toogood, Rodney Seal, and Terry (Marvine) King.
His parents preceded him in death.
A Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa followed by a graveside service in the Alamosa Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to Hospice Del Valle or the Valley Church of the Nazarene in Monte Vista and may be made in care of the funeral home office.
