At 5 feet, 9 inches, I haven't grown since 1979, but I sure have "grown up" with a few wrinkles and pounds to add to my high school photo.
After high school graduation and summer employment, I was enrolled at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and later transferred to George Washington University, graduating in 1984 with a business degree in management information systems.
During the next phase of my life, I worked as a civilian at the Naval Research Laboratory for 21 years: computer programmer, central computing facility staffer, publication specialist, and public affairs specialist. I am now a public affairs specialist at the Selective Service System, with nearly seven more years of federal employment before I am eligible for retirement.
I will be honest and say my professional career has always taken a backseat to other paths that have been and continues to be more important to me. Lately, I must admit, it has been challenging to work as a government employee in a workplace where it is all about ego, politics, and funding. After I leave federal service, I only hope to leave behind a positive legacy, to be known and remembered as one who had the guts to speak up about how we spend and use our hard-earned tax dollars and encourage others to do the same all for the greater good in helping to create a better world for our children.
In between time, I have travelled around the country and abroad, pursued other rewarding endeavors, and met so many good friends along the way. Once a marathoner, cyclist, rock climber, mountaineer, triathlete, and fitness instructor, I am now a 200-hr Yoga Alliance certified instructor for Bethesda Sport and Health, and I also teach senior fitness for Holy Cross Hospital in Montgomery County. My athletic and personal experiences have been very enriching. I am honored to be in a position where I can be of “service” to the community.
As the oldest sibling of three, I am an aunt eight times over, with four nieces and four nephews aged 4 to 22 years. My long-time boyfriend of sixteen years and I share our border terrier, Bismarck, who rocks our world. Our little family of three is passionate about discovering new places, sharing new experiences, and enjoying all that life has to offer. The only complaint we have is … there is just not enough time to do all the things we want to do and yes, traffic!
