My parents still live in the same house in Stratford Landing (55 years now), so I get back to the old neighborhood at least once a year. I still drive by old friend's homes and tell my kids funny stories about how my wonderful friends and I did some silly things. They can't believe their dad ran through the woods at night looking for the Mount Vernon monster or that I used to sing at the White House and Woodlawn Plantation.
After high school, John Jeffers and I went to Spain to finally get some use out of our high school Spanish, then we both headed to college. Recently we reconnected thanks to social media. I lost touch with many friends, but was still able to see many of you at holidays. If you remember, I went to college at Williams College in Mass. where I continued to play soccer as well as stay interested in music. After college and a degree in economics, I went to Northwestern University to get an MBA in finance and marketing, which led to a very short career as a semi professional soccer player, but a longer career in the commercial real estate business. To date, I am still active in this industry and hav had the good fortune to travel most of this country as well as internationally.
My career has taken me from Chicago, to Dallas, to Washington DC, to Phoenix, to Denver, to Portland, OR, back to Denver, and then to Charlotte, NC five years ago. Debbie and I, along with our dog Lilly, are adjusting to being empty nesters. Our three children, Connor (25), Jami (24), Anna Jo (19), continue to prosper in there respective lives. We still try to stay focused on the family, and when the kid’s schedule permits, we head to our second home just outside of Vail, CO. While the winter days are spent on the slopes of Vail and Beaver Creek, we occasionally snow shoe or X-C ski thru the neighborhood. But the summers are the best with family bike and hiking trips to various lakes and streams and other points of interest. It took many years, but everyone now is able to fly fish the river in our backyard.
Retirement will be more of a redefinition and rebalancing, than complexly checking out. It still seems far in the distance, although its fun to think about.
Looking forward to our 40th reunion.
