I remember it all to well also. Rick Cannon came to pick me up and drove us to the funeral. I also remember that the next school day (at Gorveton or Mt Vernon?) one class we had, perhaps English class, the teacher was passing back our previous week's assignment and Jay Pitts or John Howerton asked for Kurt's paper.
I remember going to the funeral with Joy Beach who was Kurts girlfriend at the time of the accident. I had known Kurt since Elementary school and there wasn't a finer person you could ever meet! I still think of him often!
Wow. I remember it too well, too. I was stunned when my mom told me what had happened, and then shocked and honored when Kurt's parents asked that I be the crucifer at his funeral. The utter simplicity and emotion of the funeral remain with me, and I can't drive past Pohick without thinking of Kurt.
I still remember that morning that I Heard the news of that fatal accident on The parkway. Kurt was driving his ford pinto,He & I where best friends, It hurt me very deeply.Kurt was a happy go lucky person and he was friends with everyone, May he rest in peace..
I, still think of Kurt often, Especially around this time of year. Will never forget the pain that was felt when we found out and then went to see the accident. Kurt was a great friend who made many of us smile. Will never forget his love of surfing and the beach. Whenever I hear songs like the needle and the spoon, woodstock, or sultans of swing I'm reminded of times we spent together listening to music and having fun. From one of the 4s, Kurt will never be forgotten.
Kurt actually died on June 2, 1979. I remember exactly because it was my 16th birthday. It was a very surreal day for all of us. It was such a cool dude. I miss you Kurt.
