Judith Gale Callender Hoffman died on December 24, at her home. She was born October 28, 1941 in Alton Illinois. She was the daughter of Turner (Tony) and Peggy (Robertson) Callender. She attended Alton schools. She graduated from Alton Senior High School in 1959. Judy Hoffman was a historian and lifelong Alton/Godfrey resident. She had a degree from Lewis and Clark Community College in property management, and was a former real estate management executive. She managed commercial and residential properties in Alton, throughout Illinois, and in St. Louis, MO for fifteen years. She was also the host of the popular radio show “Hey Jude” which was devoted to local area history and current events. Her late husband Lars served as the first mayor of Godfrey for seven years following its incorporation in 1991. She belonged to Riverbend head Start and Family Services. Judy served as the President of the Nelson Foundation. She served on the Nature Institute Board of Directors. She was and Ex-Offico member of the Board of Directors for the Alton Cemetery. She was a Member of the Board of Directors for the Jennie D. Hayner Library Foundation, as well as a member of the Chapter Illinois PEO. Her many awards included: the Studs Turkel Humanities Award and Alton Area Women of Distinction. Judy was preceded in death by her husband; Lars Hoffman, her brother Dale Callender of Aubernadale FL, bother of her parents, and numerous aunts and uncles. She is survived by: hers sister-in-law Sandy Callender, her nephews and families; Mike and Dawn Callender, Mitch and Kelly callender, and mark and Gina Callender and their children; Lars' children, Lexa and Charles Gottdiener, their two children Benjamin and sophis, and Shay and Cara Hoffman, their two children; Cici and Stockton, her daughter Stacia Ebrey and son Clay Marquis, her grandchildren; Jeremy and Matthew Meyers, Alyson Ebrey, Drew and Mandy Marquis, Turner Marquis and one great grand child Alyssa Marquis. A Memorial Visitation will be from 2 pm to 8 pm Friday January 2, 2015 and Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral home in Godfrey. A Memorial Service will follow at a later date. In Lieu of Flowers donations may be made to the Jennie D. Hayner Foundation.
