Kenney Sue Chappee, 68, formerly of Godfrey, passed away Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Banner Baywood Hospital in Mesa, after complications following surgery.

She was born March 16, 1941, in Alton to Kenneth and Jnoeva (Barnes) Chappee and grew up in Godfrey.

Kenney was an excellent student, attended Southern Illinois University and graduated from Barnes Hospital School of Nursing in 1964. After a fun-filled summer of backpacking across Europe with friends, she started her nursing career, which led to stays in both California and Illinois. Her passion was working with children and she helped design and open a new state-of-the-art facility for developmentally disabled children in Waukegan, Ill., in the late 1970s. In 1982, at the urging of her family, she moved to Arizona and joined the family business. She continued to work in that capacity and to bask in the love of her family and friends while championing many causes and charities, including helping underprivileged children, her passion to the end.

She was loved and will be missed by her sister, Doran Barro and her husband, Angelo; nephews, Ken and wife, Amy, and Mike and wife, Christa, and Bruce and wife, Kelly; and niece, Regina and their families, all of Arizona, as well as cousins, JoAnn Kerchner and Ward Sponsler of Greenfield, Nancy Bailey of Godfrey and Barney and Suzanne Barnes.

A memorial service was held Monday, Nov. 9, at Sun Lakes Methodist Church, 9248 E. Riggs Road, Sun Lakes, Ariz.

Memorials may be made to the church.
