Billie Joe Claxton, 74, died at 1:50 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2016 at his home in Godfrey. Born April 22, 1941 in Alton, he was the son of Ralph and Della M. (Williams) Claxton. Mr. Claxton served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1959-1965. He was stationed in North Carolina and served in Japan and the Philippines. He loved the Marine Corps and his country. Semper Fi. On August 7, 1999 he married the former Donna Jean Underwood. She survives. Also surviving is a son, Bruce W. Claxton of Davis Junction, IL, and a step-daughter, Donetta Brooks (Jamie) of Granite City, two grandchildren, Stevie Marie Claxton of Davis Junction, IL, and Thomas Claxton of Northampton, Australia, four step-grandchildren, Dustin Miller (Ashley) of Mt. Olive, IL, Devon Stein of Granite City, Destiny Brooks of Granite City, and Dalton Brooks of Granite City, and a brother, Gary Lee Claxton of Alton. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a step-daughter Jeanetta Teachenor. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Memorials may be made to BJC Hospice.
