It was about this time (50 years ago)that Ronnie and I be came friends. Over the next 47 years, he remained a faithful and loyal friend.I took him home to meet my parents, and later my Mom said that "Ronnie will always be your friend".We had many adventures of ? behavior in the early years, but as most,we settled down into life's routine.Although we did not see each other often,we would get together when I came to Alton to see my parents. We would go to dinner at Tony's downtown,or to the Stake&Shake on the Homer Adams Pkw.We also went to some places of ? reputation. I always knew what to expect when I saw him because he was one of the few people that never changed(a real Dirty Harry type). We visited many times by phone, and he would always ask about how my parents were.He would call them at Christmas and Thanksgiving. The last time I saw him was in June of 2005.He looked ill to me at that time, and in the fall of 05,he began having significant medical problems that we dicussed multiple times. On 3/6/06, He called me ,and we talked for over an hour. He was happy to be back home after living with his son for several months recovering from a stroke. My last words to him were" I love you guy".He passed away suddenly the next day and there is hardly a day that I don't think of him.I was fortunate to know and have Ronnie as a friend.
