Bob's death was a surpise to me. I thought with him being in football and the service that he would have never had health problems, but he did. He called me "pork chops" for years. Most girls would have been hurt by that but he was always joking and so funny. He was one of the football players that I remember yelling for in cheerleading. He was guttsy and Mr. Posey really liked him. Another memory is of his little beige car with the loud glass pipes going down College Avenue Hill. A true friend he was to many.
Bob Davis was an acqaintance from my old neighborhood. He lived on 5th Street across from the Alton Cemetary. When he was a junior he quit school and joined the Marine reserves. He served his six month active duty and came back to Alton high and finished his senior year and played football. He was the type of player that any coach would have loved to have on his team. Dave, the St. Pat's coach, would have liked to have him, I'm sure. He lived close to our school. Dave may have even tried to recruit him for all I know. Bob reminded me of Darwin Holt, the great Alabama linebacker. He was not very big but Bob was really tough and loved to hit his opponent. I think he was the player who scored the only touchdown that beat a good Marquette team in 1955. This was the first game in the long series. Bob was the kind of a guy that one would always remember. Sincerely, Mike Mossman
