Preston Monroe

Excerpts from Alton Telegraph Obituary:

ALTON - Preston Scott "Scotty" Monroe, 56, died unexpectedly at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10,1996, in the emergency room at Wood River Township Hospital.

He was born July 19, 1940, in Alton, the son of Alfreida (Kennedy) Monroe of East Alton and the late Homer Monroe.

He graduated from Alton Senior High School in the class of 1959.

After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force.  On Jan. 28, 1960, Scotty Monroe married Jackie Eyster Monroe at St.Paul's Episcopal Church in Alton.

Scotty served as the Most Excellent Grand High Priest of the Royal Arch Masons of the state of Illinois in 1985. Scotty was awarded the York Rite Cross of Honor. He was treasurer of the Illinois Grand Sessions for several years. He served on the board of directors for the Knight Templar Home in Paxton. 

He was a member of Piasa Masonic Lodge 27 of Alton.

In addition to his wife and mother, surviving are two two sisters, Emily Wells of Gainesville, Fla., and Marena Turner of Wood River; five brothers, Cloyd Dean Monroe and Phillip Monroe, both of Alton, Ralph Monroe of East Alton, William Monroe of Dorsey and Donald Monroe of Wood River; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Pauline Eyster of Alton.

Two brothers, Charles Edward and Michael Wayne Monroe, preceded him in death
