Occupation: Retired Telephone Operator
Comments:

Married two months after graduation. First husband in the Marine Corps. While married to him, moved around the country to military bases where he was stationed. I worked as a civilian telephone operator for the Federal Goverment. Moved from Alton to North Carolina, to Erie, PA, then to California. I have 3 daughters. The oldest is married, has no children and lives in Idaho, next oldest has one daughter and they live in Alton and Bethalto, third daughter lives in Virginia. She has a boy and a girl.

I lived in California for seven years, divorced my first husband and moved back to Alton in 1976. Worked as a waitress when I met Jim Lewis and married him. He didn't want me to work so I became a housewife until the youngest daughter was on her own. For a short time I worked for Carols Bridal altering bridal dresses and making prom dresses. Then I went LCCC and studied to be a medical transcriptionist. Worked for a physical therapy clinic as a secretary and transcriptionist until 1994. Stopped working in offices in 1995 and started tole painting for my nephew-in-law's mother, who sold tole painted wood crafts at craft shows. That was the job I loved.

My hobbies are painting, knitting, crocheting, sewing, gardening, and reading.

Jim passed away in Nov. 2006. Now I spend my time playing with my puppy, Mikey, so I am mikeysmama! I, also, spend my time on my hobbies, shopping with my daughter, and anything else that strikes my fancy.

School Story:

One year, don't remember which one, five or six of us girls were in gym class, sitting on the floor of the gym in the sunshine, probably resting from tumbling, when one of the girls asked me if I had dyed my hair. I said no why? She said because it was shining red in the sun. That did not make me very happy because I didn't care much for red hair.

Most of my memories of Alton High are good, especially the food in the cafeteria. OH Boy was it good. Tried to reproduce some of the receipes at home, came close a few times.
