Alice Hutchinson

ALTON - Alice Mae (Stevenson) Hutchinson, 58, was called home to be with the Lord at 2:45 am Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Willow Creek Rehabilitation Nursing Home in Belleville.

 
Born May 27, 1941, in Alton, she was a daughter of Eugene Stevenson Jr. of Alton and the late Mary Ellen (Johnson) Stevenson.
 
She attended Alton public schools and graduated from Alton High School. She started her professional career at the U.S. Army Personnel Administration Records Center in St. Louis. In 1974, she joined the U.S. Army Reserve's 102nd US ARCOM, where she worked in recruiting until 1977. She transferred from the record center to the Social Security Administration in Alton in 1984, where she fulfilled various duties, including the receptionist position, to help assist the public. She retired July 1999 after a lengthy illness.
 
She married Herbert Hutchinson Jan. 1, 1980, in Alton. He survives.
 
In addition to her husband and father, surviving are her children, Darrin, of Orlando, Fla. and Kristi, of St. Louis; a stepdaughter, Karen Hughes of Alton; a granddaughter, Yolanda Hughes; three grandsons, Andre Ingram, Jamar Hughes and Kaleb Hall; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Elwood and Yvonne Stevenson
of Alton and Richard and Mary Stevenson of Godfrey; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
 
Visitation was held from 4 p.m. until time of services at 7 p.m. Sunday at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Alton, with the Rev. John Buford officiating. Family and friends left Williams Mortuary in Alton at 9:30 a.m. Monday for burial at Upper Alton Cemetery.
