Janice Elaine Major, 66, died at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, at her home.

A daughter of Charline (Dickerson) McGiffen of Alton and the late Lonnie McGiffen, she was born Oct. 2, 1941, in Alton.

On Oct. 8, 1965, she and Billy J. Major were married in Wood River. He died July 2005.

She had been employed as a clerk at Camp’s Drug Store.

In addition to her mother, surviving are two daughters, Pamela Major and Chip Little of Wood River and Cassy and Damon Jacobs of Saranaca, N.Y.; two sons, Dennis McGiffen of Wood River and David McGiffen of Alton; and 11 grandchildren, Ciera Major, Stephanie Vail, Samantha, Damien, D.J., Desiree, Billy, Bash and Chelsea McGiffen, Deven and Braden Banks.; and one great-grandchild.

Besides her husband and father, she was preceded in death by a son, Bobby McGiffen.
