MORKEL, JAMES A., died at 10:50 p.m., Thursday, March 17, 2005 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. Born November 25, 1941 in St. Louis to the late W.T. 'Sam' and Ruth (Nash) Morkel. Married Sharon Katherine (Niemietz) on January 17, 1981 in Alton. She preceded him in death November 15, 2005. He retired from the machine shop at Owens IL Glass in 2000 after 39 years of service. He was a member of the College Avenue Presbyterian Church and Alton Eagles. He loved bowling, golfing and playing ping-pong. Surviving is a son, Douglas (Lisa) Morkel of O'Fallon, MO; two stepsons Kent Ernst of East Alton, IL and Brian (Jasmine) Ernst of Godfrey; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Mallory and Meredith Morkel and Elissa, Heather, Olivia and Emma Ernst; one brother Ted (Gloria) Ernst of Godfrey and his mother-in-law, Lenora Niemietz of Alhambra, IL. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday at GENT Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday with Rev. George Humbert officiating.
