Worship at First Presbyterian Church of Alton
"Worship is at the very heart of the church's life. All that the church is and does is rooted in its worship. The community of faith, gathered in response to God's call, is formed in its worship. Worship is the principal influence that shapes our faith, and is the most visible way we express the faith."
---Book of Common Worship of the Presbyterian Church (USA) Preface
Divine Worship at First Presbyterian Church is both traditional in style/expression, as well as contemporary in inclusivity and relevancy. Our Order of Worship is informed by The Book of Common Worship which is a part of the Constitution of the Presbyterian (U.S.A.) Church. Its theology is based on the Bible, informed by the Book of Confessions of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and attentive to ecumenical relationships. It reflects and encourages a rich heritage of traditions and diversity of cultures, the connection between worship and Christian Life, witness, and service.
Sunday Worship Serivce - 10:00a
Children are encouraged to join their parents for service. On June 15th we will be restarting our Children's Church services for children ages 4-12. Children will gather together with the Children's Church leaders after the Passing of the Peace and go down to the Chapel for their service concurrently with the adult service. We are also currently in the planning stages of developing a soft-space for parents with children who wish to remain in service.
After worship, all are encouraged to gather in the Fireside Room (on the lower level) for Fellowship Hour.
