Alton Sr High School
Class Of 1960
Hope Cousley Apple
I graduated from Northwestern in 1964, married David Apple, divorced in 1975. I received a library science degree in 1966, lived in Chicago, New Orleans, Silver Spring MD, Maine, Chicago again. I worked as a reference librarian at the Skokie Pubic Library, then for Senator Paul Simon's Chicago office. With another librarian I compiled a reference book and database. In 1988 I inherited my parents' home in Alton and turned it into a bed and breakfast. In 2006 with former 5A's director Bill Stuart I founded a no-kill shelter The Riverbend Humane Society which is just south of Jerseyville. I still own a home in Evanston and go back there frequently.
In many ways--some good--some not so good--my Alton High experience prepared me for real life.
Hope's Latest Interactions
I can't remember not knowing Donna. We had a wonderful childhood living around the corner from each other, climbing trees, swinging on grape vines and playing basketball together. She always won. We were in the same class, the same Girl Scout troop, and the same church. I miss her outgoing spirit and always will.
