High School was pretty uneventful for me. I learned to smoke at the Sandwich Shop on my lunch break. It took me years to kick that habit. They had the best french fries until Burger Chef came to town.

The only time I skipped school was on the day Dr. King was assassinated. I think 2/3 of the school skipped that day.

The best part of high school was meeting Rick, my husband of 38 years. I also found my BFF in Gloria Pulido Pugh.

Karen & I had several classes together at East Junior.

She had beautiful, long natural hair & a winning smile.

Karen was a mother of 3 early on.

I always admired how she handled that responsibility

 at such a young age.
