Carter
Carol L. Carter, 82, Altoona, passed away Thursday at Homewood Living, Martinsburg. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Walter and Charlotte (Spalding) Beckel.
On June 17, 1978, she married William T. Carter in Altoona. He preceded her in death on March 17, 2024.
She is survived by a daughter, Melissa Berard, of Pittsburgh; a step-daughter, Jennifer Galanick (Joseph) of Sterling, Va.; a stepson, Thad Carter (Yvonne) of Altoona; step-granddaughters, Courtney Carter and Kirsten (Carter) Berger (Joe); and siblings: Judith Peistrup in Indiana, Donna Lechner of Johnstown and Richard Beckel (Barbara) in Florida.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Walter Beckel.
Carol was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1963 graduate of Temple University School of Nursing.
After 43 years of service, she retired as an operating room nurse from the Altoona Hospital.
She was a member of Juniata United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, reading and caring for her animals.
Friends and family will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., 719 N. Fourth Ave., Altoona.
Family and friends will also be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, at Juniata United Methodist Church, 808 N. Fourth St., Altoona, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Denise Haskins officiating. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery.
