Jack E. Hostler, 73, Altoona, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, at UPMC Altoona.

Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. A complete obituary will appear in Sunday’s edition of the Mirror.

Note: Sorry to say that we have lost another classmate, another Angel has gained his wings.  RIP Jack.  I will watch for the Sunday obituary and update then.

Jack E. “Spike” Hostler, 73, Altoona, died Nov. 11, 2016, at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Larry and Hazel (Amick) Hostler. He was happily married to Beverly Ann Scheffer for 53 years.

Surviving are his wife, Beverly; a son, Brian, and wife, Julie, of Altoona; five grandchildren; a brother, Bob Hostler and wife, Tena; a sister, Eleanor Hazlett; a brother-in-law, Jim Scheffer and wife, Carol; and a special friend, Bob Hughes.

Jack was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He retired in 2007 as a die cast operator at Veeder-Root, after 45 years of service.

Spike was a former member of Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church and a life member of the Bavarian Aid Society.

Spike enjoyed playing and umpiring softball, coaching baseball, hunting and fishing and loved talking to his neighbors. He also enjoyed going to Pompano Beach, Fla., with his wife.

Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a memorial service will take place at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Home Nursing Agency, 201 Chestnut Ave., P.O. Box 352, Altoona, PA 16603.

I was so sorry to hear about Jack.  We grew up very close to each other on First Avenue.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Jack and I were friend since the first grade at Jefferson School. We remained close until after high school. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
