I just wanted to let you know that my brother Thomas G Johnson, passed away yesterday on June 27. I want all of you to know that he held the class of 1960 in highest regard and loved all of you. Thomas G. Johnson July 1942 - June 2020 San Diego Tom was the son of Harry L. and Betty J. Johnson of Altoona, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Marines Corps right after high school and went through boot camp at Parris Island, SC. He arrived in San Diego in January at age 19. He often said, "sunshine, palm trees and warm temperatures in January, I am never leaving." And he didn't.He met his wife Carol while stationed at MCRD. They married after his Marine Corps service. His background in electronics and a business education at UCSD led him to start two businesses in San Diego. Tom was a pioneer in the San Diego electronics industry. During more than 40 years in business he mentored and fostered many careers. He was the consummate salesman.Tom enjoyed golf, travel, football, and private aviation. He was actively involved and supported the Marine Corps Museum at MCRD. He is survived by his wife Carol, sons Jeff and Doug, daughters-in-law, five granddaughters, his sister Edith and brother Alan.He will be interred at Miramar National Cemetery. Tom was a different, but lovable man.I know when Ray Dell lost his arm due to an infection,Tom supported and cared for Ray and his family.I first met Tom in 7th grade at Keith and stayed friends with him throughout HS and at the reunions.I know he paid for a lot of our class memberships.Tom was a kind and gentle person and he liked dancing with my wife ,Jackie at earlier reunions.Rest In Peace Tom,you earned it.

Tom and I were good friends most of our lives growing up in Altoona. We didn't live to far apart. As some one suggested Tom was a little diffferant. I don't think we thought to giver him credit for thinking outside the boxes. When he got out of the marines he and his co-worker had a bar room conversation about how much money they were making for their employer. They decide to borrow all the money they could from all sources and become their employers competiton. Western Scientific was born. They became an International company and were a great success. Over the years Tom and I spoke quite frequently at length. As his illness got worse he would call me ask me a question or make a quick comment and hang up. His favorite story was about Carol. He said he made a comment at the dinner table one night that he lost a million dollars that day. His wife replied "I'd like to remind you that half that million dollars was mine" . Tom responded "then maybe shoud come to work and protect your investment". She did.Tom said it was the smarttest thing he ever did. Over the years Tom and I were always good friends. I miss our converstions and the ability to just dcall him. My best to Carol and the boys.
