Charles E Little VIEW PROFILE

Charles Eugene Little

July 7, 1942 – Dec. 3, 2021

He was born in Altoona, son of Earl and Helen Little.

Coach Little is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis Hefner Little; four nephews in Pennsylvania: William Little of Williamsburg, Michael Little and Steven Little of Altoona and Thomas Little of Hollidaysburg; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Wineland Little of Duncansville.

He was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School and was an educator and coach. He was a member of the 1959 Western Pennsylvania football team and played in the East-West All Star Game. He was a graduate of Catawba College and was a four-year starter on the football team, playing both offense and defense. An avid supporter of Catawba, he served two terms as president of Catawba Chief Club, and is a member of the Catawba College Hall of Fame. He cherished his time at Catawba and maintained a close bond with his fellow teammates throughout the years. His love for Catawba football was evident as he formed a special organization, the Gridiron Club, to unite former players and friends of Catawba football, for the sole purpose to aid and support the program. He coached many sports and was proud of the young men he coached through the years. Many went on to receive college scholarships. He was especially proud to be close friends with his fellow coaches who became his life-long friends. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, and was an active member of his neighborhood organization.

A service to honor his life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, 2021, on the lawn at First United Church of Christ, Salisbury, N.C. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall, with COVID-19 protocol measures in place.

Memorials may be made to: First United Church of Christ, 207 West Horah St., Salisbury, NC 28144, or Charles E. Little Scholarship, c/o Catawba College, 2300 West Innes St., Salisbury, NC 28144.

Charlie was a good friend. I talked with him about 3 months ago. He was in good spirits.

He was a easy going guy.

So sorry to hear of Charles passing. He was a fine friend and an avid football fan. God has another fine lineman. RIP

So sad to read that another good friend has passed.  The last time I saw Charlie was during a trip to West Point that some of the class of '60 graduates took.  We had a great time reliving our high school stories and I really respect and admire his dedication to coaching high school athletes.  May he rest in peace and prayers go to his family at this difficult time for them.

Charlie Little's outdoor memorial service yesterday was a beautiful . It reflected on his life in Altoona ( especially   high school ), Catawba College, his career, and especially his Family.  His love for everyone was very evident. I am so glad we continued to be friends since our days at Keith. He truly was a Blessing to so many and I am glad I was one of them.
