I received a message from Judy (Servello) Clendenin that Larry McKee died on August 6, 2026.  It has not been in the Altoona Mirror yet.  We understand that he had no family left.  Will post full obituary later.  I grew up in East End with Larry and I think he lived in the same house he grew up in.    He worked in Radiolgy at Nason Hospital and we retired from there on the same day.  He did come to the monthly lunchens for a long time.  

Larry G. McKee

Dec. 7, 1942 – Aug. 4, 2026

Larry G. McKee, 83, of Altoona, passed away Aug. 4, 2026, at Midtown Oaks, Altoona. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Charles and Winifred (Decker) McKee.

Larry was an only child and is survived by a cousin, Tom McKee, of Altoona.

Larry graduated from Altoona High School in 1960 and continued his education at a medical school in Cleveland where he prepared for work as an X-Ray technician. That led to a 36-year career with Nason Hospital in Roaring Spring.

Larry was a member of the National Railway Historical Society, Horseshoe Curve Chapter, where he became involved with the formation of the Railroaders Memorial Museum. Larry also belonged to the Circus Fans of America and was recognized for his work at the recently held spring circus at the Jaffa Shrine.

One of the highlights of Larry's life was telling people that he was in the movie "Unstoppable," which was filmed in Tyrone and starred Denzel Washington. Larry could be seen wearing a black trench coat, but the scene was so brief that, if you blinked, you might miss him.

Those who were his friends recognized and appreciated his many interests, which included photography and movies, especially early era westerns, his favorite genre. Larry made several trips to the West Coast to visit movie studios and locations such as Monument Valley in Arizona and Utah.

Larry was a kind and generous person and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Altoona.

A committal service will be held at noon on Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, at the Chapel at Alto-Reste Park, Altoona, with Pastor Drew Baker officiating.
