Schaffer
Marjorie J. Schaffer, 82, of Brookville, formerly of Altoona, died Wednesday at her home after a period of declining health. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Arlie and Marjorie Kuhn Thompson.
She was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School and was a member of Juniata United Methodist Church in Altoona.
On May 21, 1983, she married Herman “Jake” Schaffer, who survives.
Marjorie began her career as a buyer for Gables Department Store and later worked in the Classified Department at the Altoona Mirror, retiring in 1999.
Her memberships included Bunco Club and a Bowling Team.
She enjoyed bowling, church functions and spending time with her great-grandson, Griffyn.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Robyn Moyer; her brother, Richard (June) Burket; her sister, Nancy (Larry) Coon; her granddaughter, Kylee (Carter) Strawcutter; her great-grandson, Griffyn Strawcutter; her sister-in-law, Jeri Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Richard Burket; and her brother, Harold Thompson.
Furlong Funeral Home, 50 Broad St., Summerville, has been entrusted with the final arrangements for Mrs. Schaffer.
A graveside service to be held at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona, followed by a luncheon at Juniata United Methodist Church, Altoona, will be scheduled and announced at a later date.
