Gary, thanks for the kind words...we all do what we do because we love to do it.

To everyone else...Good luck with the storm! Having been through too many of them in my lifetime, you guys are crazy if you're staying, but I can understand your reasoning. Be safe and we'll see you on the other side.

ROLL CALL!

Did everyone make it out ok? My mom and sisters had yard damage and some minor damage to their houses, but they all came out pretty fairly. We didn't get a drop of rain here in San Antonio. Hope you guys are doing well!

Well I hope everyone made it through Ike ok. It is extremely shocking to see the damage that Alvin has from the storm. My family was fortunate enough to suffer only minor damage to our home. I hope many others were as lucky. For those who do not live here...we pretty much lost our Sonic...very sad...that was cruising central during the 80's. Many, many memories were made there!! Hope all is well with everyone after Ike!

I'm coming down there to help my family clean up and to take a look around. I was going to say that I'll be the crazy looking guy with a chainsaw and a beer, but that's pretty much everyone in Alvin right now...lol! Drop me a line if any of you need some help. I'll have chainsaw in hand...

Eddie - Looks like you don't have to worry about the Alvin Motel, it was pretty much wiped out.

ANGLETON HAD TWO TORNADOS DO MOST OF ITS DAMAGE, SADLY TO SAY ONE CAME THROUGH MY SUBDIVISION. MY HOUSE WAS DAMAGED ONLY BY TREES BOUT 12" IN DIAMETER. MY ACROSS THE STREET NEIGHBOR HAD A 50' HACKBERRY CRASH INTO HIS 2 STORY & TAKE OUT HIS SONS BEDROOM, ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! GUYS THIS IS THE IRONY IN THIS STORY. HE WORKS FOR CENTERPOINT ENERGY, HES BEEN TO TOWNS THAT PROB WILL NEVER EXIST AGAIN, HES SEEN THINGS HE DONT WANT TO TALK ABOUT & HE HAS NO TIME TO HELP HIS OWN FAMILY BECAUSE HES OUT THERE HELPING ALL OF OURS! I CALLED A RADIO STATION YESTERDAY & TOLD THE STORY & BOUT 2:00 6 CENTERPOINT TRUCKS SHOWED UP AT HIS HOUSE & WITH 5 CHAINSAWS & ABOUT 25 PEOPLE WE CUT THAT TREE DOWN IN 3 HOURS. SOME OF THESE PEOPLE WERE FROM OTHER STATES & THEY WERE PLACED WITH LOCAL EMPLOYEES. MY NEIGHBOR WAS BLOWN AWAY, HE WAS COMING HOME TO TAKE A NAP, BUT FELT REJUVINATED AGAIN! THIS IS MY FEEL GOOD STORY OF THIS DISASTER, THIS MAN GIVES BACK SO MUCH, HES EVEN MY OLDEST SONS BASEBALL COACH! I LOVE AMERICA!!! PLEASE EVERYBODY REMEMBER THAT & THE NEXT TIME WE TALK TO A CENTERPOINT EMPLOYEE, THEY DONT WANT ANYTHING FROM US EXCEPT UNDERSTANDING. SO FRANKLIN, DARRIN & WHOEVER ELSE MAY BE WORKING THERE ASS OFF FOR ME MY HATS OFF TO YOU!

I second what Gary says! If any of you guys need something to eat, please come to the house! We happen to be one of the few to have electricity in Alvin, and cooking for a crowd is all I'm doing these days.

Let me start by saying THANKS to all of the emergency crews that have been putting in those 16+ hour days. I'm in Conroe, it looks really bad, but mostly trees down. We had large trees down on fences, but no house damage. Just got power and internet back tonight.

Hope everyone is ok.

thanks Bill, we hear things like thank you and you guys are to slow. i wont say what i tell them, but for those who know me you know what i say. I even had one tell me that i dont know what its like to not have power, boy i let him have it and when i told him that the ones that are doing this for them dont have power either, and we have just as much damage as they do. good luck in all your repairs and when you see the power companies working , just tell them they are doing a good job or keep up the good work. just dont ask how much longer.

We stayed and rode out the storm. We live in Alvin near Froberg Farm and our house held up like a rock. Our house was built in '04 with windstorm certs. A twister ripped off our neighbors barn roof, slammed it into our house and into our backyard - in pieces, BUT we did not sustain any damage. Thank you, God. Our power was restored the Sunday after - much to our amazement. Way to go CenterPoint! Steve's parents live near Heights Baptist Church and they still not have power though. They have TNMP. Glad to see everyone is okay....

This thing is missing Annabel Fargas (Encrenaz). It should also include Charles Buckelew. It won't be a reunion without Buckelew.

I DROVE IN FROM ANGLETON TO SEE WHAT I COULD DO TO HELP MY PARENTS & BLAM! HOW BOUT THAT SONIC PEOPLE!! I WAS THINKING WE NEEDED TO INVOLVE SONIC, ROARKS OR AT LEAST GORDON ST. IN OUR REUNION. HOPEFULLY IT WILL LOOK RIGHT NEXT YEAR! PAULA, ITS BEEN A WHILE, BUT WHEN DID WINSTONS DAIRY BECOME A SAND PIT? DO ANY OF YOU REMEMBER RACING CARS DOWN OLD MANVEL ROAD? ALL I'LL SAY IS 130MPH IN A 69 CHEVELLE OWNED BY JAMES MUTTERS & A " HEY THE ROAD SWERVES HERE DUMBASS" SIGN!!!! RIGHT PAST WHOOTEN LAKE, IT WAS SPECIAL!

09/24/08 03:48 PM #91

fyi...
Saturday, Oct 11th - AHS "social" at Eddie's Ballroom in Manvel. The event was posted on Facebook.com

It's a multi-class event and there's quite a few rsvp's so far from 87-89. I thought it would be fun to see some people from my past life so I'm driving in from austin. Pass the word on and let's try to get a big group from our class. You can register on facebook and click the events to see who all has rsvp'd.
