Has it been 30 years already? Where to start????
I married in 1981 and had 2 sons, Matthew and Michael. I was a stay at home mom until Mike was in pre-school. I ended up getting a job there and taught pre-school for the next 10 years. Our family was very busy and involved in church functions (I was a Sunday School Teacher and won the Teacher of the Year award) sports-Hubby and children all played baseball, Matt played basketball and Mike played football. I was the scorekeeper for many of their teams. School functions (I can't say that I miss baking 6 dozen cupcakes for the class after the boys would give me the note when they were going to bed.) Life moved along and with it there were changes. The boys were getting bigger and more independent and I got divorced then remarried. We still remained very busy and active, just had different activities. Mike learned to play the guitar and drums and joined a band. My babies were becoming young men and girls started coming around. Some I absolutely adored, others were...well, strange. Then came the day when they left home. I never thought I'd have a problem with empty-nesting, I mean, all through their childhood I kept dreaming of the day when they would be on their own and I would have all the time in the world to do the things that I wanted to do and now, all of a sudden the time was here. It was so hard to let them go. Eight years have passed since then and I'm happy to report that I have absolutely gotten over the empty nest time and love this time of my life. It's weird, but now when I see the boys it's nice when they come but it's also nice to see them go. Times have been wonderful and others have been heartbreaking. There are many things I wish I could go back and re-do, but unfortunately, I can't.
I'm still patiently waiting for grandbabies. So far there's none and my "Grandma Hormones" are really kicking. For whatever reason, when I tell the boys, "but all my friends have grandbabies" they just pat my shoulder and smile. Kids!!!!!!!
I forgot to mention what I've done on the job front. 1990-2000 I taught pre-school at Kiddie Kountry Pre-School in N. Ridgeville. I actually had Hannah Azok (Stacy Mackey and Frank Azok's daughter) in my class. From 2000-last November I was the Activity Director at Westlake Lutheran Home. I thought I'd retire from there but unfortunately we got a new administration and many of us found ourselves permanently laid off. I was caught up in the sweep. Since January I have been working as a Home Health Care Provider. It's very challenging and I find myself wishing I could go back to school to become a Nurse but the idea of math and chemistry scare me half to death.
I continue to enjoy my hobbies, reading, gardening, crocheting, Soduko, meeting people, weekly Bible Study meetings, sitting outside, enjoying nature and listening to music. I stopped Karate years back, though I sometimes get a yearning to get back in to that. I love taking care of my two babies, Carli, my 6 year old Miniature Schnauzer and Cody, my step-dog, a 7 year old Westhighland Terrier. Carli is diabetic and Cody has chronic ear troubles and since, as I mentioned, there aren't any grandbabies to pamper, I pamper the pooches.
Gosh, we've been out of school for 30 years already? I remember when I used to think 30 was old, now I'm (and you too) are pushing 50. 50!!!!!!
I have no idea what God has in store for the future. I've learned that my plans are not always what God has planned for me.
I hope I live to be a healthy, ripe old age but if God should call me home tomorrow, I've got to honestly say, as I look back, "I've had a wonderful life. The Lord's been so good to me!" Blessings to all! Kathy
