Rick King

      - September 12, 2021

Sad to announce that Rick King passed away last Sunday September 12th. Rick was a Supervisor for Alyeska pipeline at Pumpstation 4 and a long time tech before that. Rick and his wife Judy retired and have been living in Overgaard Arizona where they have a small horse ranch. Judy’s plans are to spread his ashes in Prince William sound next summer.

Rick was a big hearted guy, knew him well from the 90's. We both shared the passion for the sea and sailing at the time. Another whom has left us far too early. Randy

I knew Rick in two worlds; work at Alyeska and as a sailor in Seward.  Rick's big heart, caring for people and generosity didn't come through much to me at work.  He was a stickler for safety, preparedness, compliance with procedures and operational discipline. What I realized from getting to know him as a sailor and friend was that he was that way because he really cared about people and wanted them to be safe.  He also cared about the environment and didn't want our pipeline and industry to negatively effect it.  He wanted us to always live up to our commitments. He had a definite sense of what was right and what was not and acted accordingly. At work, he sometimes came off as a bit of a hard-ass, but his heart was in the right place. I came to like him very much.

My heart goes out to Judy.  She is a wonderful person.  I got to know her a bit when I crewed on the trip south on Freebird from Seward to Ketchikan.  She joined us in Juneau, showing her good judgement to skip the Gulf of Alaska crossing with the challenges and dangers that it offers.  Sorry that she doesn't get to enjoy a long retirement in Arizona with Rick.  RIP Rick.  Best wishes and sympathy to Judy.
