Is it true that Mr. Brooks was shot by his neighbor because his dog crapped in the neighbor's yard? No disrespect to Mr. Brooks' memory, but I seem to remember that rumor going around...

Jennifer, yes Mr. Brooks was shot and killed by his neighbor. I don't know why tho.
Gianna, I do remember getting caught by Reuben and the whole begging thing. I'm shocked we did it and even more shocked that it didn't work :)Do you remember Mike Llanez in detention with us and he kept cracking jokes and getting everyone in more trouble? He made it so much more tolerable.

Mr. Brooks and his neighbor used to fight about the trash can being in Mr. Brooks's yard. He used to always tell us about it. He was nice. He gave me a B when I think I deserved a D because I never did anything in his class.

Happy Birthday Jennifer!

HAHAHA Yes, I remember that! Thanks, Mike!

I also remember having Mr. Bentley for French. Remember, the "great crepe debacle" Rheuhama? For one of several cooking assignments in that class (that man loved to eat!) we made this layered crepe dessert that basically fell apart. We were so embarassed to show the class, and when Rheuhama's mom brought it to school for us the next day and we revealed it, it was beautiful! She totally bailed us out on that one. Did I ever thank your mom for that?!?

Also, another time in his class, he gave me an A on a food assignment for bringing in the one food on earth he actually WOULD NOT eat! I believe it was a taro root. Oh yes... good times!

Gianna, I'll never forget the time you brought in snails to Mrs. Pena's room and cooked them in garlic butter....good stuff. Haven't eaten them since, but they weren't bad at all.

Mr. Bentley's class was fun. If my memory serves me right, I heard that he passed away a few years ago. I went to Paris with the French club our Senior year, and Mr. Bentley had to find a store to buy underwear and socks cause he only brought like 4 or 5 pairs for a 10 day trip! That was an interesting trip for sure!

Regarding the 8th grade English teacher, we were all awful to her. Yes, she was a former nun. No, I can't remember her name, either.

I distinctly remember we all threw paper wads at her, too, when she was writing on the chalkboard.

Was it Ms. Enriquez? I remember giving that poor lady hell.

Tracy's post reminds me of my sophomore english teacher (can't remember his name) who would always blame everything on Leonard Koch. When the teacher would turn his back to the class, we would all throw spit wads at the paper covering the window. He could hear them hitting the window and would turn around and say "having fun Leonard?". Sadly, I don't think Leonard ever did anything, it was the other hell raisers in the class. Vince and Lalo Villa should remember this. I sat next to them and we would always be cutting up in that class!

Mr. Brooks was a nice man. I do remember his class and I don't recall doing much of anything in there. I don't know how I passed. However he was a big perv.. don't know if anyone else feels like this about him. He would say he had found a way to restore a woman's virginity with some chemical we were going to use in his class.. don't know what that man was on. Gary would you know what this chemical is? Does anyone remember Mrs. Debra Baca? She taught Algebra II and Trigonometry. She went to one of our trips with the VICA health competitions to Kansas or some other state...it was far! Rosa I think you remember...it was a long ass trip and we went in the brady bunch mobile? We heard alot of country music. I think there was 8 of us who went. We later went to Six Flags and I do recall having a good time there. I did see Mrs. Baca about 5 years ago in San Antonio for a math conference and she was still teaching somewhere in New Mexico.

Yes Liz...I remember copying your notecards and outlines when I was out for almost 1 week because I came down with the mumps... painful things! It was close to graduation in May and he told me that I needed to catch up on what I missed or to forget graduation..... I don't know why I panicked. I still graduated in the top 10 percent even with the freaking C he gave me for my semester grade. Didn't you once go with him to help him out with some dog show at the el paso county coliseum?

Lidia, I am getting Old. I can't remember anymore. As for Mr. Welch, I enjoyed every minute of his class, like Chari. I think he gave me an A in the class because I really poured out my soul in my journal and left NO details out.....as for Mr. Brooks, the worst mistake I could make at the time I had him was to wear my cheerleading outfit in his class. Thinking back now, I cringe at what he would say to me! Gross! I can't believe that BOTH are gone now.....

Lidia -

I remember that trip to Wichita, Kansas. We had so much fun! That station wagon was fantastic. Remember me singing? We laughed so much.

Jen/Tracy, yes it was Ms. Enriquez....omg....Vince and Mike Llanez and maybe even Javi Llanez were so mean to her! I wonder if she's in an insane asylum now.

My brother graduated in '96 and she was still there and they were terrorizing her too. Poor lady!

You're right! It was Ms. Enriquez. I feel better - now I know her name. Then, I feel bad for how she was treated.

Mrs. Taylor, English teacher, was one of my favorites. She was a hoot at times. She wore this orange/red lipstick that would always end up on her teeth, and sometimes she would forget to finish drawing on her eyebrows. She was a good teacher and her class was always very enjoyable.

I agree Vero, I think that Mrs. Taylor was one of my favorite teachers and if I well remember back in 10th grade we had a cool Biology teacher whos name was Mr. Knight. Does anyone remember him?

05/04/09 05:43 PM #293

Gianna Tupelu (Williams)

That's funny, Vero! I totally remember that about Mrs. Taylor... especially the orange lipstick. She did turn out to be a pretty cool teacher, though.

I really want this reunion to go on. People have already made plans (airline tickets, time off from work, etc.) If you are planning on attending please do it right away.

Well, that stinks! If this shin dig doesn't happen, I will still be in El Paso June 26th thru July 1st. Please don't make me spend my WHOLE vacation with my family. I love them and miss them, but...well, you know! If it's cancelled, I would still love to get together informally with some GHS people!
