Glen Dale Hicks (1982 - 2007)

Sgt. Hicks was born in Arlington, where he graduated from Arlington High School in 2000. He attended Tarrant County College and Blinn College in Bryan, Texas.

Sgt. Hicks loved baseball and watching the Texas Rangers. The B's and C's he earned in high school didn't reflect his intelligence. He read classics and began to excel after enlisting in the Army in March 2004, his mother said.  She also said "He wanted to do everything to better himself to be the best soldier he could and  he was always ready to help anyone in need, but in a hands-on and involved way."

He served in Iraq in 2005, where he received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. While serving his second tour in Iraq Sgt. Hicks died, with two other soldiers when an improvised bomb exploded near their vehicle in Salman Pak near Baghdad.  Sgt. Hicks told his mother he was returning for a second deployment in support of his fellow soldiers and not for the mission.
