Come out on my whale watching boat on Monterey Bay, California! I'd love to see you all and show you our incredible marine wildlife.
I've lived in Pacific Grove, next to Monterey, CA since 2000. I spent the 90s after Smith College (biology, art, comparative religion) working at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History as a scientific illustrator, and founded a grassroots watershed conservation organization in the Greenbelt, Maryland area. I moved west to illustrate tunas for researchers at Stanford and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. In the early 2000s I participated in humpback whale research in Southeast Alaska, worked several seasons as a naturalist on Alaska and Cape Horn cruise ships, and settled in as a naturalist on whale watching boats on Monterey Bay.
In 2014 I got my Captain's license and after five years of managing a small boat company, in December 2018 I bought the boat and company. It's a six-passenger RIB (giant Zodiac) and you can see it at fastraft.com.
My parents, Lucy and Charles Spencer, still live in our house on North Vernon St. near HB. My sister Stephanie who graduated from W-L in 1985 lives with her partner near Berkeley, CA.
