Bill Ihrig

William D. Ihrig, DDS, 63, of Ashland died unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at Samaritan Hospital. Born Dec. 14, 1948, in Ashland, he was the son of Robert D. and Betty Louise (née Shank) Ihrig. Dr. Ihrig was a 1967 graduate of Ashland High School, a 1972 graduate of Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich., and a 1975 graduate of The Ohio State University School of Dentistry. He played football in high school and college and while in high school, he held the record for the number of tackles in a game (12). A devoted Christian, Dr. Ihrig was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and also was a member of the American Dental Association, the Ohio Dental Association and the Mansfield Dental Association. A devoted family man, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, at the beach. A supporting member of the Ashland Arrows football program, Dr. Ihrig was co-chairman of the Arrow Stadium Improvement Project and coordinated and sponsored the Ashland High School football kick-off banquet since 1991, receiving the Sportsman, Ethics and Integrity Award from the Ohio Athletic Association in 1997. Along with his jovial personality and sense of humor, he loved his family, his practice of dentistry and his patients. He is survived by his wife, Robbie (née Forbes) Ihrig whom he married Aug. 5, 1972; two daughters, Courtney (Jason) Henthorn of Toledo and Cari (Chris) Kuczkowski of Ashland; grandchildren, Kyleigh and Camden Henthorn and Alexa and Layla Kuczkowski; a brother, Dan (Nancy) Ihrig of Medina; sisters-in-law, Sharon Ihrig of Ashland, Joyce (Jay) Nesbit of Cleveland, Janice (Walt) Ferger of Mansfield and Renee (Ronald) Michalovich of Lakeville; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Ruth Forbes of Nashville, Ohio; along with 12 nieces and nephews; and 16 great-nieces and -nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Ihrig. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Ave., Ashland. Funeral services will take place 11. a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 508 Center St., Ashland conducted by Anglican priest Father Dr. John Jorden. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Ashland High School Athletic Department, 1440 King Road, Ashland, Ohio 44805. (T-G 10/10/12)
