Sheila Goon (Mondragon)

Sheila M. Mondragon, age 72, of Ashland, passed away peacefully at her residence Wednesday, August 18, 2021. She was born November 20, 1948 in Ashland, the daughter of the late Charles "Tony" and Mary Etta (Shankland) Goon. Shelia had been a lifelong resident of Ashland and a 1967 graduate of Ashland High School. She had been employed with Pic-A-Deli for over 10 years and a volunteer with Lincoln Elementary for 32 years. Sheila had been Ashland City Schools volunteer of the year in 1986, she was on the first planning board for Planned Parenthood, and had been a Girl Scout Leader for over 30 years. She was a member and officer of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary who held several offices including Inside Guard, Outside Guard and Conductor. Sheila was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, playing cards, eagle watching, taking motorcycle rides with her husband Bob, and treating her grandchildren to Friendly's. On April 11, 1981 Sheila married Robert "Bob" J. Mondragon who preceded her in death in 2020. Survivors include her son, Terry (Penny) Weitzel of Bristol, TN.; her daughter, Chasidy (Greg) Cooper of Mt. Gelid; grandchildren, Nate Weitzel, Jessica (Benjamin) Gannon, Tyler Cooper, and Madison Brennstuhl; great grandchildren, Savannah Newcomer and Camden Weitzel; brothers, Thomas (Barbara) Goon, Richard (Karen) Goon; sisters, Bonnie (Douglas) Howell, Charlotte (Jack) Dodds, and Peggy Goon; along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Bob, Sheila was preceded in death by her daughter, Heather Mondragon.
