After AHS68 attended then, Mansfield School of Technology which became North Central Ohio Technical Institute and later North Central State Technical College. Graduated 1970 with Degree of Associate in Applied Science Electrical Engineering. June of 1970 I was recruited to join teaching staff at Fields High School a chartered HS inside the Ohio State Reformatory Mansfield. I taught trade math, blue print reading, and industrial electricity courses as part of a vocational program geared for inmates to obtain employment following release from prison. While at OSR I took classes at Ashland University, OSU and Xavier Cincinnati. 1974 I left OSR took some time off and then enjoyed working at Ashland Samaritan Hospital in maintenance department as hospital's chief electrician. During my service to the Hospital I studied at the West Side School of Technology Cleveland and earned my Ohio Stationary Steam Engineers License. I met my wife Beatrice and we married 1976. 1979 I was recruited by folks at Ashland University to help the director of physical plant as Assistant Plant Engineer in charge of Plant HVAC systems including all boilers and electrical systems. 1981, recruited by The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Co. (HSB), I obtained my National Board of Boiler Inspectors Commission State of Ohio and worked as territory Boiler and Machinery Inspector. Promoted into Claims department I helped investigate large industrial accidents and settle million dollar claims. 1999 recruited by HSB's engineering services division I obtained my Authorized Nuclear Inspectors commission to help support inspection activities at Davis Bessie and Perry Nuclear power plants. I retired from HSB June 2017 after 36 years of service. Subsequently, HSB recruited me to hire back as "Flex Force" inspector to help with manpower issues, vacations and time off for area inspection teams. I enjoy working periodically to help support my 4 grandchildren. I have no desire to travel probably due to the Million miles I drove as an inspector with HSB. I remain in Ashland, Ohio my home town. Although I was born in Mansfield, Dad purchased 3 acres just north of RT42 on RT 603 to build his own home. I started first grade at Mifflin Elementary while we lived at my grandmothers farm, corner of Crider and Laver Rd now called Shelly's Acres. We moved in to our new home 1957 and I finished first grade at Edison Elementary. One of my teachers, Joe Denbow now attends my Sunday school class at Christ United Methodist Church where I help with Trustee duties and attend services regularly.

Jan 22, 2023 my wife of 46 years Beatrice Ann Gudel North passed away in home hospice surrounded by her family. Diagnosed with colon cancer, two years of chemotherapy slowed cancer progress. Her courage, doctors, nurses, community support, and pastoral guidance from Christ United Methodist Church of Ashland brought her peace with love of Jesus Christ. I've been loving her for 48 years.

Wow, my memory just got jogged. Summer of "69" I was having lunch at the Bob-A-Lou bar on Main with Richard Campbell. Suddenly, a we heard a commotion and noise outside front door. Bam, the front door slammed open and a Harley Davison motorcycle blasts indoors and rolls down main hall engine revving past everyone at the bar and then it turned right and went out the side door into the alley. Now I know who was on the motorcycle.... any guesses....

I knew Paul at Edison Elementary.  We played "Marbles" and collected "Cats eyes"   Due to his different appearance he had only a few friends.  I invited him to visit me at my parrents place on Rt603. We rode bikes, played in the creek and went ground hog hunting.  Sometimes on Saturdays I would ride my 3 speed western flyer 6miles into Ashland and meet Paul at his house and we would ride to Brookside Park and then sprint across town for a Root Beer at the A&W.   Great fun!  Will never forget him...

Bruce North has left an In Memory comment for Rich Goldsmith.

Rich got in trouble early 1970's and did short stint at The Ohio State Reformatory Mansfield.  I worked inside the prison at Field High School 1970 - 1975 teaching math and blue print reading.  I noticed his name on a list and visited him at his cell.  He was terrified.  Rich got out early on shock probation (I left a nice note in his file for his probation officer).  Later I learned he had a good life and many folks loved him...
